Reality Check: What does migration look like in other countries?
Reality Check: What does migration look like in other countries?
“Pathways of Hope” is an international Youth Exchange gathering 35 participants from Portugal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Ukraine, Italy and Romania in Marrakech, Morocco, with the purpose
of learning about migration realities around the world. The main concepts discussed during the project
are refugee, migrant, emigrant, immigrant, I.D.P. and asylum seeker.
On our 3rd day, we warmed up in the morning with an Egyptian energizer introduced by Islam Harb, followed by a reality check activity where all the countries had the chance to bring us closer to their migration realities and related issues, such as the two European cities in the north of Africa (Ceuta, Melilla) and Ukranian diasporas. The Egyptian team introduced a new learning tool to present their reality through a market, where each Egyptian participant covered a certain aspect of the topic.
By the afternoon, we had a session prepared by Isabel Barros to explore our differences,
in terms of opinions, perspectives, mindsets, cultural and social backgrounds. It was interesting
to introduce bold topics that led us to break some of the stereotyped ideas. Participants were
able to freely express their thoughts about sexual orientation, gender equality, physical barriers,
national identity, and minorities.
To conclude the day, we will have an intercultural journey by experiencing a wide variety of food,
clothes, music, and dances of all the participating countries.
